Description

You’re invited to a night of music, dance and patriotism as the DeKalb community’s America 250 celebration reaches its grand finale on Veterans Day at the Egyptian Theatre!

The free America 250 Finale begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, and will bring the community together for an evening celebrating our nation, honoring our veterans and looking ahead to America’s future with performances showcasing local young talent!

The evening opens with the Northern Illinois University Concert Choir. As part of their performance, these talented students will lead the community in singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful.” It’s a chance for the entire community to join together in two beloved patriotic songs.

The music continues with NIU Suzuki Strings, a local ensemble of young musicians ranging from age 4 through high school. After taking part in a performance of the national anthem at a Chicago Fire game earlier this month, the group will take the Egyptian stage with selections including “Ashokan Farewell,” featured in Ken Burns’ “The Civil War” documentary, and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Then, get ready for a little Broadway! Dimensions Dance Academy will bring the energy with selections from Hamilton,” the hit musical telling the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton. The young dancers recently wowed the crowd downtown at the NIU Homecoming Block Party.

Throughout the evening, the program will honor the veterans in attendance with a recognition of each branch of the U.S. military and a special thank you from Cub Scout Pack 131.

The celebration wraps up with fellowship and free America 250 birthday cake for everyone.

No tickets are required. Bring your family, invite a friend and join us at the Egyptian Theatre as DeKalb celebrates America’s 250th anniversary together!
